Prep to 911ÖÆÆ·³§ Course Description

Prep to 911ÖÆÆ·³§ is available to incoming freshman students during Summer School. This introductory, one-credit course is designed to guide incoming students through a variety of learning activities with the goal of accessing the resources, skills, and support they need to experience a successful transition to high school. The course will introduce students to key 911ÖÆÆ·³§ staff members and teach them how to access various school-based supports and resources. Students will learn Google applications and organizational skills to prepare them for 911ÖÆÆ·³§’ academically rigorous courses. Through a series of fun and collaborative activities, students will become familiar with the culture of 911ÖÆÆ·³§, explore the campus and building, and learn school procedures while building a sense of community with other incoming freshman students. Elective credit is given for this course.

This is a Pass/Fail course where students will have the opportunity to earn one (1) elective credit over the summer. While we encourage all students to take advantage of this opportunity, summer school is optional.

Prep to 911ÖÆÆ·³§ is structured to meet in-person. Students will attend class for a total of 8 days of instruction. The summer school day will start at 8:00am and conclude at 1:35pm. A 30-minute lunch break will be included within the school day.

Prep to 911ÖÆÆ·³§ Session Schedule

Prep to 911ÖÆÆ·³§ dates (all classes are from 8:00am-1:35pm):

• Option 1: May 28, 2025 - June 6, 2025
• Option 2: June 9, 2025 - June 18, 2025
• Option 3: June 23, 2025 - July 3, 2025

Given that there are only 8 days of the Prep to 911ÖÆÆ·³§ course, one or more absences will result in no credit for the course. Students will continue to take the course and will receive audit status.

Reading & Math in the Social Context

Some students will be invited to participate in our Reading and Math in the Social Context course based on their MAP Reading scores. Students will be notified via email about their eligibility for this program prior to the opening of Summer School registration.  

This is an interdisciplinary course combining reading, math and enrichment. The reading component is constructed to support students in improving their level of reading proficiency. The math component of the course will support students in developing and acquiring skills to increase the student’s level of math proficiency before taking Algebra I during the academic year. The course will include learning math from a social justice lens as well as learning math in a format and structure that will allow students to construct meaning from the fundamental components of Algebra I as it relates to the social context. In addition, all students invited to take this comprehensive course will take part in various enrichment activities aligned with their work in reading and math. Elective credits are given for these courses.

Geometry Complete

Incoming freshmen who place into Geometry based on successful completion of Algebra and a MAP score of 237 or higher are eligible to participate in the Geometry Complete summer school course.  This course is designed for students who excel in the area of mathematics, have a great interest in the subject and are looking to take math courses on an accelerated pathway.  

Geometry Complete is a summer school course at 911ÖÆÆ·³§ where students will engage in work that promotes critical thinking and problem-solving, collaboration and influence, agility and adaptability, initiative and entrepreneurship, effective communication, resourcefulness with information as well as curiosity and imagination. The focus of the Geometry class will be on integrating algebra in a geometric context, coordinate geometry, justification, structured argument, reasoning, transformations, shape recognition and manipulation, modeling and building visual skills. The course will infuse art, design, aesthetics, spatial thinking, construction, perseverance, and precision. 

Here is a sample 911ÖÆÆ·³§ math pathway for students who chose to enroll in this course:

• Summer Before Freshman Year: Geometry Complete
• Freshman Year: Advanced 2 Algebra Honors
• Sophomore Year: AP Precalculus
• Junior Year: BC Calculus AP
• Senior Year: Multivariable Calculus & Linear Algebra (AP Grade Weight/Dual Credit)

Complete 911ÖÆÆ·³§ Mathematics Course Sequence

During the incoming freshmen course request process, math placement for freshmen year will continue to list Geometry until successful completion of the summer school course. Given successful completion of Geometry Complete, 911ÖÆÆ·³§ will update the fall math placement to the appropriate Algebra 2 class at that time.

• Absence Policy: 26-Day, 2-credit courses Students must attend a minimum of 24 days of class to earn both credits. The last day of class is required.
• If the course is dropped after June 11, an F will be listed on the transcript.
• Space for this class is limited.

911ÖÆÆ·³§ will email a registration code to eligible families once initial placements into Geometry have been confirmed in mid-January.  The registration deadline for this course is TBD.
