About Athletics at 911ÖÆÆ·³§
-
Home to 36 IHSA State Championships and countless Top 10 finishes, the 911ÖÆÆ·³§ Athletic program is regarded as one of the best in the state of Illinois. With twelve gyms including historic Beardsley Gym, two swimming pools, a designated gymnastics training center, three weight rooms, a fieldhouse, outdoor track, four baseball and softball diamonds, eleven outdoor tennis courts and eight athletic fields including legendary Memorial Stadium, Evanston's athletic facilities have few rivals.
But more than the championships and the facilities, the driving force behind Evanston Athletics is the commitment of our coaches and the effort of our athletes. We hope you'll join the tradition of 911ÖÆÆ·³§ Athletics by making that same effort to train and learn from some of the best coaches in high school athletics.
911ÖÆÆ·³§ Athletic Mission Statement
The core mission of 911ÖÆÆ·³§ Athletics is to develop our student-athletes into hard-working, self-reliant, confident, and selfless leaders and citizens. All student-athletes will represent and support 911ÖÆÆ·³§ with class, sportsmanship, humility and passion as they strive towards excellence in academics, athletics and life.
Philosophy
The 911ÖÆÆ·³§ Athletic Department strives for an innovative and successful athletic program. 911ÖÆÆ·³§ pursues excellence and equity in all of its programs. Athletics, as an integral part of the overall educational process, is uniquely positioned to enhance a well-rounded 911ÖÆÆ·³§ education. All 911ÖÆÆ·³§ coaches share the same goal as the school and Evanston community: to transform and improve the lives of all students.
The 911ÖÆÆ·³§ Athletic Department supports a broad range of high school teams that encourage our student-athletes to develop their skills and character to their full potential. We focus on building character through examples and experiences of leadership, persistence, competition, sportsmanship, teamwork and integrity. 911ÖÆÆ·³§ believes that successful teams serve to build a sense of spirit and camaraderie at school and are a source of pride for our alumni and community. 911ÖÆÆ·³§’s commitment extends equally to all athletic activities for female and male sports. We encourage student-athletes to participate in multiple sports and other extracurricular activities.
911ÖÆÆ·³§ prepares student-athletes to face a rapidly changing world with confidence and a sense of responsibility to make the world a better place. Our student-athletes will be better prepared for success in college and their future careers. The Athletic Department views its interactions with students as opportunities to help them discover, develop and test their skills and character to create positive change. We will support and motivate all student-athletes to remain engaged in athletics and connected to 911ÖÆÆ·³§. Through the pursuit of healthy habits and participation in competitive high school athletics, 911ÖÆÆ·³§ student-athletes embrace the level of commitment necessary to achieve their individual goals, aware of the need to bring out the best in others, successful on the field of play and in the classroom.
911ÖÆÆ·³§ expects that the young adults who participate in our athletic program will be prepared to excel, contribute, and lead in their communities and beyond.
911ÖÆÆ·³§ Athletic Department “Core Values” Statement
In order to achieve our mission, 911ÖÆÆ·³§ coaches and student-athletes are guided by core values:
Effort: We know effort is the one quality EVERY athlete has the potential to provide their team. It is the spark that turns a hopeless play into a winning moment. It is the cornerstone of every successful season and the backbone of every great athlete.
Selflessness: We work collaboratively and in a cooperative spirit whereby the goals of our team come before the interests of any individual. We respect our teammates and coaches and benefit from everyone’s unique strengths and talents. We look for opportunities to give back to our community.
Grit: We know life is not easy, that persistence and determination in the face of adversity is critical to be successful. We are accountable and take responsibility for our actions. We appreciate the guidance of our teachers, coaches and family, but recognize that we must get things done on our own.
Passion: We will enjoy and have fun in our athletic pursuits. We will emphasize pride & passion for ALL 911ÖÆÆ·³§ sports and activities with positive school spirit throughout our time at 911ÖÆÆ·³§ and when we return as Alumni.
Character: We recognize we are role models and represent our coaches, our families, 911ÖÆÆ·³§ and the entire Evanston community wherever we go and whatever we do. Honesty, integrity, trust, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship, humility and loyalty are not just words to us. They are the values and core beliefs we live every day. We do the right thing when nobody is looking.
Leadership: We set a positive example in the classroom, on the athletic fields and in our community. We lead by example and know the right way to hold our teammates accountable for their actions and efforts.
Athletics: We focus in practice to learn the skills, technique, strategy and game plan required for success in our sport. We are committed to learning and training outside of our season, but also recognize the importance of multiple sport participation on our overall development.
Academics: Our number one priority is our work and effort in the classroom. We realize our participation in athletics is a privilege and not an entitlement.
Excellence: Excellence is defined as doing our very best in the areas that we control with no regrets on the effort, attitude and teamwork required to achieve the goals we set for ourselves.
