What is Student Government? Student government is made up of Student Union and Student Council.  Student Union focuses on making policy changes at 911ÖÆÆ·³§, while the Student Council works to develop school spirit. 

Student Union is made up of student volunteers led by the Student Representative to the school board, who also serves as Student Union President. Members of Student Union work collaboratively with each other and the 911ÖÆÆ·³§ administration to develop proposals to address school policies that require changing. Examples of past Student Union proposals have been updating the student dress code, developing more opportunities for students to clear tardy detentions, and advocating for changes to homework policies. In addition to working on policy changes, Student Union plans and hosts the annual Student Voice Forum, which provides students throughout the school with opportunities to share concerns about 911ÖÆÆ·³§ directly with administrators. Student Union meets weekly and is open to students of all grade levels. 

Student Council is made up of students and supervised by adults. The purpose of the student council is to give you an opportunity to develop leadership by organizing and carrying out school activities and service projects. In addition to planning events that contribute to school spirit and community welfare, Student Council is the voice of the student body.  They help share student ideas, interests and concerns with the school wide community. Student Council helps plan and run all-school events such as Homecoming, spirit weeks, school-wide dances, and more. Students who wish to join Student Union or Student Council can learn more information from the Student Activities office located in The Hub(W220).

Who can run for Student Representative to the School Board? Sophomores and juniors can run in the spring for the following school year. Any eligible student  who is interested in making a positive difference in their school is encouraged to run for Student Representative. Elected officials have greater responsibilities and time commitments than general members and must be able to attend weekly Student Union meetings as well as monthly School Board meetings. Elections for Student Representative take place in the spring of the school year prior to taking office. 

To provide the widest opportunity for all students to participate as a candidate in an election, the amount of money spent supporting a candidate in any student election cannot exceed $100. The $100 limit includes all campaign expenses. The campaign financing limitations apply to the total value of all brochures, fliers, advertisements, websites, t-shirts, and all other campaign materials. Even if campaign materials are donated or purchased by others, the total value of those materials and donations applies to the $100 limit.
