About Special Education

  • “Embracing its diversity, 911ÖÆÆ·³§ is committed to educating all of its students to their maximum potential.” - 911ÖÆÆ·³§ District 202 Mission Statement

Special education and related services are supports provided to students with disabilities as deemed necessary through the Individualized Education Plan and team. A variety of state and federal laws must be followed to determine if a student is eligible to receive special education services. The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) entitles students with disabilities to a free appropriate public education designed to meet their unique needs. These services can begin at the age of 3 and continue to the age of 22, and are to be provided in the least restrictive environment.

Child Find at 911ÖÆÆ·³§

  • Child Find is an ongoing process that identifies, locates, and evaluates children who may be eligible for early intervention or may need special education services. This process takes place from birth through age 22 (i.e., through the end of the school year which the student turns 22). Evanston Township High School District 202 is responsible for actively locating, identifying, and evaluating all children who live within the district boundaries who may qualify to receive special education and/or related services. All school districts must have written procedures for Child Find activities for all school children, including those attending private, charter, and/or religiously affiliated schools.
