Child Find is an ongoing process that identifies, locates, and evaluates children who may be eligible for early intervention or may need special education services. This process takes place  from birth through age 21 (i.e., through the day before the student’s 22nd birthday).Evanston Township High School District 202 is responsible for actively locating, identifying, and evaluating all children who live within the district boundaries who may qualify to receive special education and/or related services. All school districts must have written procedures for Child Find activities for all school children, including those attending private, charter, and/or religiously affiliated schools. 

When a student is referred for special education by parents, school staff, or representatives from community agencies, available data is reviewed by the school’s grade-level Student Support Team (SST). At that time, intervention strategies and supports may be implemented, and/or an initial case study evaluation may be initiated to determine eligibility for special education and related services.   For more information on Student Support Teams at 911ÖÆÆ·³§, please visit the Student Services webpage. 

To receive special education services, students must be determined to have one of the following exceptionalities Autism (includes, but is not limited to, any Autism Spectrum Disorder); Deaf-Blindness; Deafness; Emotional Disability; Hearing Impairment; Intellectual Disability; Multiple Disabilities; Orthopedic Impairment; Other Health Impairment; Specific Learning Disability; Speech or Language Impairment; Traumatic Brain Injury; Visual Impairment. 

If eligibility for special education is determined, an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) is developed and reviewed annually. An educational program must be available to students who are eligible for special education services to meet graduation requirements and address established goals and objectives. Eligibility for special education services is reevaluated every three years.

Procedural Safeguards are shared with parents if a case study evaluation is initiated and provided annually to families if their child receives special education services. The Notice of Procedural Safeguards are available here:
