E/LEAD FAQs

Why a Leadership Academy?
We know that 911ÖÆÆ·³§ students have the potential to lead in many spaces in the classroom and beyond. Some students don’t see themselves as leaders yet – but others do; in E/LEAD, we want to create a high school experience for students who have been underrepresented and under-engaged in leadership spaces to become more connected in academics and extracurricular activities at 911ÖÆÆ·³§, to support students in developing a leadership identity. Additionally, the Academy will expose students to core themes and frameworks of leadership and identity development; offer opportunities for students to explore these themes and frameworks in action, and encourage students to experiment and experience leadership in ways that are true to who they are becoming. As our mission states, our aim is to “to empower students to develop their unique leadership identities and potential as impactful leaders who inspire positive change within their communities.”If I’m in E/LEAD, will I be able to take other classes?
Yes. Students in E/LEAD are in a cohort program for selected academic courses (in 9th grade, E/LEAD students will travel together in Humanities, for example) and they will also be in a cohort for LEADvisory Seminar. Though the 9th grade course load tends to have less choice than in the other grades, students will likely have a variety of experience in Mathematics, World Languages, and Arts electives. Will you come to my school to share more information and answer questions?
YES! Staff from the AVID program and E/LEAD will be visiting middle schools this fall to share more about the two programs. How do I sign up for an interview?
All application materials and links will be available on the 911ÖÆÆ·³§ website on the Academic Supports page. We will hold interviews at 911ÖÆÆ·³§ and at D65 schools. Will translation services be provided for the interview?
YES! When you sign up for an interview, the option to request translation will be available. When will I find out if I have been selected to participate in E/LEAD?
We will conclude the interview process in December, and will send selection status in January.
