Dance Guidelines

  • The following guidelines are in place for all 911ÖÆÆ·³§ dances:

Coat check available for dances:  Since students are not allowed to visit their lockers during school dances, a free coat check will be provided. The coat check is for coats, jackets, blazers, and sweaters only. Bags and large purses are not permitted at school dances held on 911ÖÆÆ·³§ property (clutch purses are permitted). For dances, like prom, that are not held on 911ÖÆÆ·³§ property, students will be notified via email concerning coat check items allowed. Please leave valuables at home - cash is not needed for school dances. The school will not be responsible for any lost or stolen items.

Detentions: Students are not eligible to attend school dances, including Prom, if they have more than 10 unserved detentions, any unserved extended detentions, or are on social probation.

Dance guidelines: All school rules apply at 911ÖÆÆ·³§ dances as outlined in The Pilot (see "School Dance Guidelines"). Students are expected to behave in a manner that is appropriate for school. This includes interaction with peers and dancing. Inappropriate touching and suggestive dancing is not allowed at 911ÖÆÆ·³§ dances. Staff chaperones are the final judges of what is appropriate dancing. If a student or approved guest is asked to stop inappropriate dancing and refuses to comply, the student or approved guest may be asked to leave the dance. It is important to know that there is a police presence at all dances.

If a student is suspected to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs at a dance, or if they refuse to cooperate with any of the rules or expectations, we will contact the student’s parent/guardian, and ask that they come pick up their student. Since school rules apply at all school events, students will face disciplinary action if they are found to be under the influence or in possession of alcohol or other drugs.

Getting home after a dance at 911ÖÆÆ·³§: Students should make specific plans in advance with a parent, guardian or another responsible adult to determine when and where to be picked up after the dance. Buses run less frequently at night and may not stop outside of 911ÖÆÆ·³§ after a dance is over. Please refer to the CTA’s Trip Planner to determine the closest stop and best route or call the CTA at 312-836-7000.
